Cinema 4D Guide
How to Install Plugins in Cinema 4D
A simple walkthrough for finding the right Cinema 4D plugin folder, installing plugin files, and confirming they load correctly.
Start Here
Use the Preferences Plugin Folder
Cinema 4D keeps plugins in a folder connected to the active preferences path. Opening the preferences folder from inside Cinema 4D is the safest way to land in the correct version-specific location.
- Open Cinema 4D preferences.
- Use the button that opens the preferences folder.
- Place the plugin folder inside the plugins directory.
- Restart Cinema 4D and check the menus.

Common Fixes
If the Plugin Does Not Show Up
Most install issues come from one of three things: the folder is nested one level too deep, the files are in the wrong Cinema 4D version folder, or Cinema 4D was not restarted after the copy.
Check Nesting
The main plugin files should not be buried inside an extra downloaded folder.
Match Version
Use the preferences folder for the Cinema 4D version you are actually opening.
Restart
Cinema 4D usually needs a restart before new plugins appear.
